‘Illusion’d identity’ _"In my most recent work, I’ve been exploring what I call the illusionary nature of identity. Not in the superficial sense of appearances, but in the deeper way we pursue ideas of ourselves and how we build self-esteem around what we believe ourselves to be or hope to become. Yet we are never free from uncertainty or tension. Identities are often aspirational, fragile, and shaped by memory, culture, and inner narratives. ” _. During this project Boon reflected on the question, how much of the self is constructed, performed, and /or shaped by inner narratives and outer projections? While her concept is rooted in a feminine perspective, she avoids fixed categories. Her abstract photographic work hovers between emergence and dissolution, suspended beyond a linear concept of time. In this space, her sensitivity to nuance is felt, and impermanence is held with quiet respect. Subtle changes in time captured weave together past, present, and future into a single, compelling narrative, inviting the viewer into a gentle metamorphosis, where boundaries soften, and a sense of self unfolds
With her theme and her experimental way of working, Boon’ s photography transcends cultural and personal boundaries, capturing ephemeral moments of transition, that go beyond our perception.
